Obituary of Norah Lee-White

It is with great sadness that the family of Norah (Brock) Lee-White RN, announce her death which occurred on May 18, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a short period of declining health.

The daughter of the late Charles Harold and Muriel (Gillis) Brock, Norah is survived by Arthur, her beloved husband of 68 years, and her three children, Barbara, Leonard (Jodi) and Bettina (Gary) Thompson.  She was the proud grandmother of Rebecca Buckley (Brett), Alec Lee-White and Nina Lee-White (AJ Kosonic) and great-grandmother of Alice Buckley.

Norah is also survived by her sister, Bettina Dodds-Hebron of Toronto; her sister-in-law, Margaret White of Greenbrae, California and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Susan Brock and Eileen Brown; as well as her brothers, Frederick and John.

Norah was born in Rothesay on November 27, 1923.  She attended Rothesay Consolidated, Netherwood and Saint John Vocational schools before graduating with a nursing diploma in 1945 from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal.  She practised nursing and had many traveling adventures during her time spent in Montreal, Bermuda, Toronto Sick Children’s Hospital, Cobble Hill and Edmonton. Norah returned to New Brunswick where she helped establish the first blood donor clinic in the province and became a public health nurse.

While never comfortable with the motion of the sea, she met her future husband, Arthur, on her brother John’s sailboat, The Canada, in 1951.  Norah and Arthur then married the following June.  She was a wonderful cook, a welcoming hostess and a mean Spite and Malice, Bridge and Scrabble player.  Crossword and jigsaw puzzles were always on the go.  She had a passion for gardening and enjoyed sharing knowledge of flowers with others.  Norah was a past member of the Rothesay Garden Club and the Fundy Garden Club.  She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Rothesay.  Norah and Arthur spent many winters at their home in Florida golfing and beachcombing.  She never stopped her love of traveling and she always breathed life into all of her endeavours.

The family would like to thank the many health care and personal support workers who have assisted Norah over the past several years.
