Obituary of Betty M. Flavin
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of the matriarch of our family, and well-known North Ender, Betty Flavin, wife of the late Bernie Flavin. Born April 18, 1936 in Philips Harbour, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Leila (Penny) Grant.
Betty could often be found sitting out front of her house on Victoria Street with her family, striking up conversations with everyone who walked by. She was always lending a hand to her family and friends when she saw a need, and loved listening to the Grand Ole Opry.
Betty is survived by her children: Brian (Mandy), Bruce, Kathy (Darren), Sheila (the late Joe), Patsy, Larry (Francine), Lorna (Joe), and adopted son, Jimmy Drew; grandchildren: Tabitha, Amanda (Gary), Michael, Krysta (Clint), Jenn (Jason), Melissa (Chris), Wayne (Sonya), Connor, Haley, Greg (Sabrina), Sean, and David; great-grandchildren: Piper, Serenity, Bearett, Alyta, Jayden, Mylah, Darriean, Ethan, Christian, Gavin, Zackary, Brooklyn, Keishya, Bryan, Nathanyal, Merissa, and Danielle; sisters: Jean (the late Clint), Joice (the late Bill), and Debbie (Gary); brother, Reg (the late Sonya); several nieces and nephews and half of the neighbourhood, who also considered her family.
Besides her parents and those listed above, Betty was also predeceased by her son, Jim; her sister, Joan (Emmerson); brothers: Herb, Barry (Joanne), Frank, Don (Lois), and Edward; and her precious great-granddaughter, Kyaira.
The family would like to take this opportunity to express how grateful we are to the staff of Bobby’s Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Betty in her last week of life, and also to Bernie in his last days in 2014. Your kindness will never be forgotten by our family.
