Interment
Obituary of Doreen Shanks
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Doreen Edna Shanks, 81, that occurred at the Rocmaura Nursing Home surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. Born in Saint John, NB, on February 18, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Edna Urquhart.
Doreen was known to many as “Nan” everyone that had the pleasure to meet her was memorized by her kindness and love. Her family was her pride and joy. Doreen started her career as an RNA. Her nursing skills went beyond just her duties. She gave her kind soul to everyone she knew. Doreen will always be remembered by her grace and the unconditional love she gave every day. Even after her retirement Doreen never stopped caring and being the nurse she spent her life doing. Doreen would never leave you with a goodbye it was always “see you later”. Her entire family will miss her dearly. As Nan would always say “A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”.
Doreen is survived by her children, Tara (Bill), Duanne (Amy) and Paul (Beth) all of Saint John, 8 grandchildren, Melissa (Jamie), Ashleigh (Jerren), Tessa, Dustin, Laura, Morgan, Abby, Rachel, and 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including her niece Shelly (Peter), her 2 brothers John Urquhart (Kathy) and Chris Urquhart (Jean) of Saint John. Sisters Irene of Ontario, Shirley of Saint John. Besides her parents, Doreen was predeceased by her husband, Duanne Shanks and her youngest daughter Tracey Hasselman (Raymond), her brother Johnny and sister Audrey.
The staff at Rocmaura Nursing Home could not be more appreciated for the love and care that was given to Doreen over the past nine years. Doreen was treated as if she was a part of their own family, much thanks to them all.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424).
