Obituary of Laudianne Legere

It is with sadness but wonderful memories that we announce the passing of Laudianne Marie Legere at her home on August 8, 2021, after a period of failing health.  Laudianne was born in Gauvreau (Little Tracadie) on March 27, 1937.  She was the daughter of the late Adenise (Brideau) and Philomene Benoit and a loving wife to Victor Leger for 55 years.

Along with her husband, Laudianne is survived by her son Ivan (Nicole) who, with Victor, were the centre of her world.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father and mother, she was predeceased by her sister, Claudia Arsenault and brother Claude Benoit.

Although Laudianne lived her younger years in Gauvreau, she moved to Saint John as a young adult where she worked at the sugar refinery and later as a caretaker for different families.  She always spoke lovingly of the children who were under her care and who kept in contact with her throughout her life.

Being a wonderful cook, Laudianne always made her many friends feel at home often insisting you must have a snack which made her kitchen a center of activity and conversation.  She was not a person to sit idle for long and was involved with crafts, sewing, playing bingo, shopping for bargains, visiting friends, helping those in need and the nightly card games with Victor before bed. Laudianne loved fiddle music and often kicked up her heels at her local clogging club.

Although she loved her home, she also loved camping at Salmon River, hunting, picking blueberries and cranberries, fishing and tending her flower beds.   Later in life she returned to Gauvreau to spend her summers at their summer place on the Tracadie River where many of her relatives and friends still live.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home Paradise Row, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation taking place on Sunday, August 15th from 2:00 – 5:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Redeemer Parish – formally St. Pius X – (316 Sommerset St.) on Monday, August 16th at 10:00 AM, with burial to follow at Fernhill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Alzheimer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com
