Obituary of James Potter

The family of James "Jim" Potter announce his peaceful passing on Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born on May 6, 1930 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia to the late Charles and Luella (Ruggles) Potter.

In 1949 he graduated from Mount Allison University with a Business Administration degree. While there he played hockey for the Mounties and met his future wife, Marjorie Carter.

After marriage, they moved to Saint John where he later started his own company, Arrow Glass, which he operated for well over 40 years. He was well known in the construction industry in Saint John and around the province. He belonged to the SJXA, Saint John Construction Association, Cliff Club, Shriners and Jesters to name a few.

Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman belonging to Hutchinson Brook Lodge in Nictau, Stoney Run on the Miramichi, Island Lake near Oak Point and was a lifelong member of Balls Lake Fishing Club in Saint John. He looked forward to trips to Great Slave Lake for fishing and Anticosti Island for hunting. He also enjoyed curling and an occasional game of golf. Jim and Marj enjoyed time in Hawaii and Florida and cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska.

Boating and water skiing on the St John and Kennebecasis Rivers filled the warm summer days along with bonfires in the evenings. Saturday nights you could find him playing cards, with family and friends or enjoying late night bbq’s with friends while the kids swam in their pool. The family cottage in Nova Scotia provided many fond memories of get togethers and lobster dinners. On a cold winter's day, family could be found snowmobiling to Long Island or around Kennebecasis Park, his home for 51 years.

Our dad lived a full, active and well-rounded life with many adventures shared along the way.

He will be missed by his daughters Sandra (Brian) Lockett and Kathie (Don) Dobbin and his grandchildren Kendra (Joe) Goguen, Kim (Chris) Lee, Kristen Augustin, Chris ( Jill) Dobbin, Michael Dobbin, Tricia (Arthur) Wright, Lisa ( Steve) Atherton as well as his 20 great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Marjorie, sisters Dorothy and Audrey, great grandson Jack Dobbin and Karl Augustin
