Obituary of Margaret Peters
It is with profound sadness that Bonnie, Linda and family announce the passing of their beloved Mom, Nana and great-grandmother, Margaret Alice Peters. Mom passed away on December 2, 2021 at the Church Home of St. John and St. Stephen. She was born on September 3rd,1921 to William John and Mary Adelaide Marks in Saint John.
Mom graduated from Saint John High School in 1939 and Business College in 1941. She soon after met the love of her life, Jarvis Winton Peters (Pete) of Saint John, at Main Street Baptist Church where both were singing in the choir. They married in Montreal in 1943.
Following graduation from Business College, Mom accepted a managerial position at Eastern Bakeries. She left work in 1946 to start her family when Bonnie was born followed by Linda in 1950. She was a stay-at-home Mom, until the opening of the new Sears store in 1954 when she accepted a position in management. Mom was a highly respected employee and was honoured with the first 5 star award in the Saint John Simpsons- Sears Store. She continued to work until her retirement in 1982.
She was very involved in the Home and School Association of Lorne School. She served on many committees and with the Board of Trustees of Main Street Baptist Church. Mom was on the advisory committee of the North End Improvement Association of which she was a founding member. She served as their treasurer and vice-president and was instrumental in the conversion of Alexandra School to Senior apartments and the construction of new housing for low income families. That group eventually evolved into ONE Change.
Mom is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Lou and Linda Joyce Casey (David); her 3 grandsons, Peter (Jennifer), David Andrew (Natalie), Riverview and Sean (Kate), Oakville, On; and her great-grandchildren, Allison Kelly (Jesse), Anderson, Audrey, Abigail, Evelyn, David and Ella Mae. She is also survived by several special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband “Pete”, Mom was predeceased by her 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
Mom was a role model and an inspiration to many people she met. She loved her family unconditionally, never uttered an unkind word or criticized. She loved and was loved by all who had the pleasure to know her. She will be missed beyond all measure. The fabric of our family has a huge hole in it and it will take a lifetime to heal. We are sure you and Papa are enjoying his special coffee and biscuits. We love you, Mama

We want to thank the staff of The Church Home of St. John and St. Stephen for their exemplary care they gave Mom the last 3 months of her life. Also, we would be remiss if we did not pay a special tribute to the loving care given to our Mom by Phyl Laming, Betty Hewey and Eldo Varkey. It was certainly because of them Bonnie was able to look after Mom in her own home until 3 months shy of her 100th birthday.
There will be no visitation or service at this time. A celebration of Mom’s life will be held in the late spring. Donations can be made in Mom’s name to the Alzheimer's Society of New Brunswick or to a charity of your choice.
