Obituary of Kay McRae
Mary Velma “Kay” (Kenney) McRae passed away peacefully at the Loch Lomond Villa (Elm House) on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the age of 99 years young, just nine days short of her 100th birthday.
Kay was born in Comeau's Hill, Yarmouth County, NS on December 16, 1921 and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Evangeline (DeViller) Kenney.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Lynn (age 5); her brothers, Renard and Bradford; her sisters, Ora Seeley, Frieda Kent, Flossie Manchur, Nettie Field and Dorothy Mallory; as well as the father of her children, Frank McRae.
Kay eventually moved to Toronto, ON, where she managed a restaurant to support herself and family. She was devoted to her mother and cared for her for many years until her passing. Kay was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. She returned to Yarmouth and in 1992 settled in Saint John.
She is survived by her son, Clay of Texas; her devoted caregiver, best friend and favourite brother, Herbie Kenney, three granddaughters, several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Kay loved family get-togethers, singing, playing the ukulele, knitting, crocheting and enjoyed doing housework, especially cleaning windows. If the windows were not clean the house was not clean! Kay will be missed by all who knew her.
Special thanks to all the staff at the Loch Lomond Villa (Elm House) for the loving care they provided along Kay’s journey.
A private graveside service for the immediate family will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online remembrances and condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
