Obituary of Karen Laura Smith
Karen L. Smith of Belyeas Cove, New Brunswick, daughter of the late George and Roberta Skeldon, died unexpectedly at her home on December 19th, 2021.
Karen was preceded in death by her daughter Cindy Townsley, and her grandson Micheal Ferguson. Karen was born in York County, Ontario, on June 4th, 1946, and is survived by her life partner Herbert Hoyt; her 3 sisters, Nancy Vander-Baareen (Klaas), Suzanne Kimball (the late John), and Angela Ross; her 3 children Laura Carr (Larry), Dawna Veinot (John), and Ronald Hoyt (Melinda).
She will be especially missed by her grandchildren David (Christine), Maia (Jonathan), John (Kristie), Guy (Amanda), Taliegha, Sebastian,Tristen, Emily, and Noah. Her great-grandchildren Dominic, Kaishaun, Adrian, Emily, Abigail, Tate, and Silas.
Karen had a deep love for animals of every kind. She has taken in many strays over the years and cared for them until they found a new home or made their “forever home” with her. She will be missed by all her pets, most especially her dogs Fawn and Ranger.
Karen’s kindness and no-nonsense approach to life made her many friends. She was never afraid to say exactly what was on her mind. You could always depend on her for sound advice and a strong dose of common sense when you needed it, although every conversation was sure to end with the words “I Love You.” She will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and neighbours.
It was Karen’s wish that no formal public memorial be held. The family will hold both an Interment and Celebration of Life at a later date.
Donations in memory of Karen may be made to Saint John SPCA or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Arrangements under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
