Obituary of Bertha Mae Clements
It is with broken hearts that the family of Bertha Mae Clements, beloved wife of the late Ralph Joseph Clements, announces her peaceful passing on February 8, 2022. Born on July 12, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William and Isabell (Gaudet) Monaghan.
Bertha enjoyed life to the fullest, whether it was playing cards with the Monday night ladies club (of 54 years), Tuesday night Bingo, or bowling. When she turned 50, she found a renewed vigor for independence – getting her driver’s license and even a job outside the home. Bertha and Ralph travelled a lot when they could, spending a lot of time in Florida and around the states. They even ventured over to Europe. Camping was a favourite, especially when they’d camp with their friends and family (“the Irving Group”) at Sunrise Shores, Hilltop, and Cambridge-Narrows. Their next adventure was the purchase of their cottage in Second Falls where they enjoyed many years and would host the annual Monaghan Family Reunion and Washer Toss Tournament. Bertha had a big heart and shared her talent for cross stitch with those she loved. Those special in her life, be it family or friends, would receive a cross stitch. She also cherished the many visits with her extended family from her birthplace in PEI. Bertha will be missed by so many.
Bertha is survived by her children: Diane (Eric) Black, Linda (Bob) Moore, Wayne (Linda) Clements, and Kim (Mike) Bury; daughter-in-law: Cheryl Clements; brothers: Clair (Christine), Raymond (the late Eleanor), Charles (Georgina), Peter (Noeline); sister-in-law: Ada (the late David); 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Bertha is reunited in heaven with her loving husband of 75 years Ralph, son Gary Clements, her parents William and Isabell, sisters Eva (Henry) and Mary (Gerald).
Bertha’s family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to extramural, Dr. Elizabeth Keyes, her caregivers Leslie, Anna, Melissa, Ploy, Eve, Amanda, Angela, Brianna, and Stella.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A visitation will take place on Friday, February 11, 2022, from 2 PM - 4 PM and 6 PM – 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 11 AM. Due to Covid-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings by the Government of New Brunswick, all those 12 and older attending the visitation and service will be required to show proof of vaccination and a piece of government-issued ID or proof of medical exemption. Remembrances to Bobby’s Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. For those who wish, a livestream of the mass will be available on Bertha’s online obituary. Condolences and remembrances may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
