Obituary of Sister Ruth Monahan
Sister Ruth Natalie Monahan (Sister Mary Natalie) peacefully went home to her God on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Ruth Ross Residence in Saint John, NB.
Born in Wirral, NB on March 4, 1932, she was the daughter of Daniel Thomas Monahan and Marion Lee Wilson. On September 8, 1949, Sister Ruth entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception.
She generously shared her gifts of kindness and compassion in her hospitality and caregiving ministries, be it at Rosary Hall in both Fredericton and Regina, SK, St. Peter’s and St. Vincent’s Convents, Rocmaura Nursing Home (Saint John), Woodstock and St. Stephen, NB and Digby, NS. Sister Ruth was also a Ward Clerk at St. Joseph’s Hospital for many years.
Sister Ruth moved to Vancouver, BC and joined the Pastoral Care Team at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Arbutus Care Home, F.J. Strong Rehabilitation and St. Vincent’s Langara. Here she especially devoted her time and concern to the seniors and those seriously ill. She was known as a woman of prayer, generously sharing her deep faith in God’s care for her and others. Sister Ruth also possessed a great sense of humour and a hearty laugh, quick to share a joke or two with friends and co-workers.
Predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Marion; brothers, Arthur and John and sisters, Eunice (Dugay), Anne (Maguire), Patricia (Bonner) and Alice (Brown).
A graveside service will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Saint John on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 2:00 PM. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by visiting Sister Ruth’s obituary on the Brenan’s website. Arrangements under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
