Dear Robin & Eric & family –
It doesn’t seem very long ago that we moved back east with two small children, and were once again fortunate to spend time at Manitou. Doone & Bob were very kind to us all, and after a few visits and barbecues, les Boys knew them as Doodie & Uncle Bob, who were clearly content in their roles as the family seniors. Bob was famed for his burgers (we still abide by his secret recipe) and his home brew, and Doone was known to love ice cream; we will not speak of the infamous “pistachio ice cream incident.” Doone was also a great one for games; I seem to remember an entanglement with string, a wild game of spoons or two, and another involving scissors (crossed & uncrossed). Always welcoming, always happy to see us, and always interested in the life and times of the next generation.
Manitou isn’t the same without them, and yet, out on the lake, paddling Uncle Lee’s canoe, the Strathys & McMurtrys are all still there.
