Obituary of Carolyn Ann Neill

We as friends and family are feeling sadness at the loss of Carolyn. We can also celebrate a life well lived. She passed quietly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 28, 2022, after a brave struggle with ALS. She was born in England in 1945, the daughter of the late Myrtle and Fred Rattray. Fred, as many Canadian soldiers did, fell in love and married a “war bride”. Carolyn sailed to Canada with her mother on the RMS Queen Mary.

Her life after graduation from Saint John Vocational in 1963 was as a dedicated employee of Downey Ford. She performed many functions and duties as required during her 55+ years with the business. She was like part of the Downey family, seeing two generations grow to adulthood and eventually become the managers.

Carolyn’s love of children was apparent in her love and devotion to her son Michael who she tragically lost at a young age. She shared this love with the many children she met and nurtured in her role as a volunteer in elementary school programs. She also volunteered at the General Hospital in her younger years.

Carolyn is survived by Larry her husband of 47 years and several cousins.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). With visitation on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens following the service. Donations may be made to The ALS Society of Canada. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com
