Dan was a great childhood friend and although I have not seen him in many years I still remember his humour and contagious smile. We lived around the corner from each other, took swimming lessons together and yes got into some mischief together as young boys. I remember visiting him in Fredricton when he was in school and him touring us around the various clubs and pubs!
So sad to hear his life ended so early and with such challenges. His impressions on friends goes back many years. My sincere condolences to his family.

Dear Pam, Max and Nick,
We were very sorry to hear about Dan. Merryman remembers a couple of years ago, when she stopped by for a quick visit on her way to Maine and you invited her for supper and Dan proudly showed his man cave. My first memories of Dan were on the sports fields in McMurray and his athleticism combined with the joy of just being out there. In 1993, the plant was going through much de-bottlenecking and perpetual shutdowns. We were both new parents and I was not happy to be spending so much time at the plant. Dan understood this and in his typical way, made the situation more tolerable with his humour and camaraderie. Dan had the rare combination of gifts, both compassion and an intense competitiveness. His legacy will continue on through his family and the many friends he touched. He will be dearly missed. Love, Merryman and Stephen

Although we didn't know Dan personally, discovering who he was by reading his life story and hearing about him through you and your family, he was truly a remarkable person who loved his family and life. Pam, Max, Nick, your husband/dad was a true warrior. Never to let anything stand in the way of what needed to be done. Whether that was getting the job done at work, digging deep to find the energy/ability to put away the last point, or wandering through the night looking for a friend (who had fallen off the bed and rolled underneath), he was up to the task. A friend who would live up to every sense of the word. He will be missed, remembered and cherished. I'll most remember him on the ball diamond, encouraging everyone to have a good time (by example, of course). Or, beating my butt on the squash court, then smiling and telling me some off coloured joke about the Love Shack. A good guy taken far too soon. Love you all. Trev and Candace

I am so sorry to hear about Dan's passing. He was a wonderful person, a boss, colleague and most importantly a friend.
He loved to tell stories and show us pictures of his family. Especially the boys playing baseball or hockey.
He treated everyone the same and was always there to support you in whatever you needed.
He will be missed but I am glad he is not suffering anymore. I know it was difficult after the spinal injury.

Our deepest condolences to the Family. Dan, My dear friend, I will carry so many great and fantastic memories from such a special period in one’s life, that you shaped. That laugh, your great and (usually ah) always in good humour personality was contagious. It was real very hard to not have some serious fun with you in the mix. From the early Social Club days listening to the great music when you DJ’d, our party nights ending with still more laughter (and usually a large Luna Pizza) to ease us into morning. And when you met Pam you were smitten in so many ways. You were also one of the bravest though humble people I’ve had a chance to get to know. You brought me some of the best parts of my life, for that I shall always be indebted. These last years I know from a health perspective were difficult, but you faced the challenges so courageously, like the hero you are and have been. This legacy is now transferred to Pam and your boys. Rest in peace my dear friend, 81 82 83 84…….Somewhere in Summertime……take care and t’il next time. Love Pierre

Pam, Max and Nick….so sorry for your loss. I am at a loss for words. Rest easy knowing that his pain and suffering, which he faced without complaint, is over. The photo of Dan brings back so many memories of our antics back in Fort Mac. Dan truly was “one of the good ones”. Although it’s been a while since we connected face to face, he will be missed. Dorelle and I will share a “toast” and quiet reflection in his memory.

My friendship of Dan was while working at Syncude Canada Ltd. in Fort McMurray. The department was called safety and loss management where he was the leader of our team. We had a lot of fun playing in slopitch softball tournaments and no matter how early the game was, he was always one of the first there with a big smile. We did a lot together as a team. One year, we decided to have a lobster boil in my back yard and he arranged for those lobster to be shipped from the maritimes. That was the best feed of lobster along with all the fixings and it may have had a lot to do with the comradery of all our team led by Dan. Thank you sharing what had happened in his final year. My sincere sympathies to all the family.
