I consider it a privilege to have known Doe and worked alongside her early in my career. Forever optimistic, she brought humour, warmth, compassion and skill to a task that was far from easy. Her energy, her sweet smile and her wisdom were always present. My condolences to Ed and her lovely family. Doe has left you with many wonderful memories and will make the best angel ever.

It's the hardest of times, losing a wonderful Mother, Wife, Grandmother and Friend. We came to know Doe best when she and Ed lived in Cole Harbour, N.S. many years back. My parents - Ron & Marilyn Marsh - were best friends with Ed and Doe. Lots of get togethers, both formal and casual, with Doe always somehow taking charge of the two Naval Veterans in a way that only she could. The Centennial Branch #160 Legion was a familiar place for both Doe and Ed, where they were very well respected and held in high esteem. I can recall the story Ed told us (more than once) how he got a second lease on life when he rekindled his relationship with this special lady, whom he had first dated as a teen. Their paths crossed again later in life and a fairy tale romance, that really was the stuff movies are made from, carried them through their golden years together. I/we always enjoyed when Doe visited, sometimes she would regale us with tales of their latest European River cruise, or she'd help mom prep in the kitchen for another social occasion. Doe's infectious smile and glowing demeanor made others feel good to be in her company. And we were. I had the good fortune to hear a couple of Ed's songs he wrote for Doe and it wasn't hard to tell what kept his light shining so brightly. Saying goodbye is hard. Doe was very considerate and comforting when my parents passed away. I only hope we can return that comfort in some small way to Ed, to Doe's family and to her many friends. She will be forever missed by all who knew her. Fair winds and following seas from the Ron & Marilyn Marsh side of the family - Stephen, Jenny, David,Marilee, Alexandra, and grandson Calvin (he's two weeks old in this pic with Doe & Ed).

To Pam and family,
Although I never had the opportunity to meet your Mom I can tell from her picture and all of the stories that Pam has shared with me that she definitely was one in a million, but what Mom isn't. I know she will be missed by all of you, but how lucky you all have been to have her for all of these years. As you struggle with her loss, hold tight to the wonderful memories she has left with each of you to sustain you on the days ahead. Heaven has certainly gained a special angel. May your sweet Mom rest peacefully. My condolences and prayers are with all.

If I write a tribute it would take days to compose. Doreen was such a huge influence on my life I grew up with her family and we are all still friends to this day. Doreen was so good to my mum and they too were good friends. I wanted a big family like hers, I wanted to keep house like her and I most definitely wanted to cook like her. 59 years later it is her banana bread , her coconut squares , her pastry ! She truly did welcome everyone, everyday ,unconditionally and I was privy to those after church brunches .
She was always so happy to have sisters and brothers and cousins and kids and friends and later grandkids gather.Always an extra chair.
I was lucky to see her at the grocery store, or showers or weddings and recently at her house with most of the family. The years slipped away that night and I was back on Douglas avenue as if it was yesterday.
I loved her , my husband did too, we will miss her but she’s in my heart.
