Obituary of A. Allen Abbott
With gratefulness for a life well lived, the family of Allen Abbott announces his death on May 29, 2016. Born on May 25, 1929, Allen was the son of the late Mary (Mills) and Arthur Abbott of Chance Harbour, NB. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Gerry (nee Tooke); six children, Patrick (Darin), Joseph (Donna), Catherine Patterson (Paul), Thomas, Marlene and Jeffery (Kathy); 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Donald Tooke; sister-in-law, Genevieve Abbott, several nieces, nephews and many family friends. Allen, predeceased by his parents and brother, Owen, is the last member of his immediate family. Following Allen’s wishes, there will be no visitation and a celebration of his life will be scheduled in August. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com. Donations in Allen’s memory may be made to Romero House, Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Salvation Army or to a local charity of the donor’s choice. The family gratefully acknowledges the paramedics, nurses, doctors, and clergy who tended to Allen in his final days. Special thanks to the Palliative Care team for their support.
