Obituary of J. Charles Swanton
With sadness on Sunday, August 21, 2016. Survived by his brother Ian and Lisa (Danielle, Gabrielle, David) of Quispamsis and his sister Sylvia and Thane Crossley (Jillian) of Toronto. He was predeceased by his parents Charles Y. and Muriel E. (Chown) Swanton. Charlie is fondly remembered for his passion toward the economic and lifestyle growth of the uptown core of the City of Saint John. In recognition of overseeing successful initiatives Charlie was the recipient of the Thomas L. McGloan Award. In addition to his tenure as President of Uptown Saint John Inc. Charlie served as Chairman of Saint John Development Corporation and has been a member of the Urban Design Committee since 1987. Charlie was designated a Paul Harris Fellow as a tribute to his substantial contribution to the Rotary Foundation. Charlie was involved with The Exhibition Association of the City and County of Saint John for over 30 years having served, with distinction, in various capacities including President, Secretary, Chairman of the Land Committee and, most recently, Honorary Director. In addition to being a former Big Brother, Charlie was an avid sailor and duck hunting enthusiast. For many years Charlie enjoyed working in real estate and he also established a line of pre-engineered homes. Honorary pallbearers are Nancy Zorychta, Jim Blanchet, Willard Jenkins, Kent MacIntyre. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) In memory of Charlie and in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association. A party will be held in Charlie’s honour on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 pm at 17 Turnbull Court, Rothesay. All are welcome.
