Obituary
Obituary of Carolyn Irene McNulty
It is with great sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of our mother, Carolyn, on August 29, 2016. Carolyn was born in Saint John, NB, on November 16, 1939, to Georgie (Hovey) and Lowell Lawson. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Thomas (Sunny) McNulty, and she was the last member of her immediate family. Carolyn leaves behind her children: Judy Kincade (Steve), Cathy, Tom, Evelyn, Mary Lue (Merzie) Berriault (Kevin), Dianne Daigle (Gary), Mike (Melissa). She also leaves 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Carolyn was the founder of Romero House Soup Kitchen and its executive director since its opening in 1982. Her vocation and life's mission was to alleviate the injustices suffered by those living in poverty in our community. She truly believed that "...none goes his way alone. All that we send into the lives of others comes back into our own." Carolyn was proud to receive on behalf of the work of Romero House many accolades: the Order of Canada, Doctorate of Letters from the University of New Brunswick, a commemorative medal for the 125th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, Paul Harris Fellow, the Dollard Award, the Queen's Jubilee medal, and many more. Although the recognition was deeply appreciated, what Carolyn cherished most was her family which for her included her children and anyone who came through the doors of Romero House. She was a mother to many, and she will be missed. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday, September 1 from 2-4 and 7-9. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, September 2 at 10:00 am from Our Lady of the Assumption, 360 Dufferin Row with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception will take place after interment at Romero House on Brunswick Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to Romero House.
