Obituary of Darrell Rushton MacGowan
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Darrell R. MacGowan, loving husband of the late Elizabeth "Betty" (Green) MacGowan, announces his passing which occurred on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Kennebec Manor. Born in Hillaton, NS on December 9, 1934, he was a son of the late Murray L. and Bessie L. (Rushton) MacGowan. Darrell was a hardworking man who loved his career with MacGowan Brothers Roofing. He had a skilled hand when it came to building things out of wood and was happy to be able to do it for a living. He was an avid Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs fan and enjoyed relaxing on hot days at the summer cottage in Cambridge-Narrows with his family. Darrell will be missed by a sister, Audrey Lee (George); his many cherished nieces and nephews, including Belinda and Darrell MacGowan; Sister-in-law, Helen MacGowan; his stepchildren, Steven Ouellette (Debbie), Kevin Ouellette, Raymond Ouellette (Mhel), Debra Ouellette-McLeod (Janet) and Angela Duplessis (Michael); step-grandchildren, Daniel, Kelsey, Philip, Katie, Josh, Karie and Daphne; and three step-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Betty, Darrell was predeceased by his brother Dean MacGowan and sister Verna Estabrooks. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). A Celebration of Darrell’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 12:00 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel with a reception to follow. He will be laid to rest at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery with his beloved wife. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Alzheimer Society (Lewy Body Dementia), SPCA Animal Rescue or a charity of the donor’s choice.
