Obituary of Capt Charles Leonard Kennedy

The death of Capt. Charles Leonard Kennedy, of Proud Road, Saint John, wife of Mary (Vaughan) (McCarty) Easter-Kennedy, occurred on Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Arthur C. and Irene (Nelson) Kennedy. Capt. Kennedy was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Merchant Navy and the Black Watch, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #53. He was a Captain with Atlantic Pilotage for many years, before his retirement in 1985. Charles volunteered at Ridgewood Veteran's Wing and with many other Veteran related activities and was an avid reader and drawer. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Carleton Kennedy (Karen), Wallace Kennedy (Melissa), Sandra Kennedy (Michael), Mary Kennedy and Charlene Kennedy, grandchildren, Nicole, Joshua, Anthony, Daniel, Stephanie, Brittney, Ian and Katelyn, step-children Troy McCarty, Timothy Vaughan (Michelle), Wayne Vaughan (Rebecca) and Selena Allen (Craig), step-grandchildren, Kyle, Leiah, Gelena, Christan, Kendra and Reese, two brothers, Percy Allaby and Greg Kennedy, two sisters, Sandra Shephard and Rosamund Jolin and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Donold Kennedy and one sister, Shirley Meyers. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at 2:30 PM. Interment in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a tribute to a Veteran service on Friday at 7:00 PM, at the funeral home.
