Obituary of Joeseph Edwin Achorn

The death of Mr. Joseph “Edwin” Achorn of Old Black River Road, Saint John, NB, husband of Betty F. (Bartlett) Achorn, occurred on Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Glen William, PEI, he was the son of the late Joseph Wellington and Emily Amelia (Conrad) Acorn. For 35 years, Edwin had been enlisted with the Armed Forces as a field engineer, from where he retired. During his career with the army, Ed had been stationed in Japan and USA. He had taken part in the Atomic Bomb testing in Nevada in 1954. Ed was presently active with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #53, the Atlantic Retired Sappers, Atlantic Korean Veterans, and the Armed Forces Retired Civil Service Workers. He is survived by his wife, Betty, two sons, James E. and Gary P. (Claudette), all of Saint John, two daughters, Donna J. Runtz of Fredericton, and Brenda L. Thorne of Saint John, NB, one brother, Vernon Acorn of Glen William, PEI, six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters, Minnie Munn, Lena Conway, Myrtle Buchanan, Ella MacKay, Winnifred Gillis, and Mildred Acorn, and brothers, Lawrence, Arthur, Harold, and Nathan Acorn Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, with visitation on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2003, at 11:00 AM from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick would be appreciated. A Royal Canadian Legion “Tribute to a Veteran” will be held on Thursday at 7 PM at the funeral home.
