Obituary of Melbourne Gibbon
Gibbon, Melbourne “Mel” Fenwick ? The death of Melbourne Gibbon occurred on June 9th, 2005 at Gagetown Nursing Home. Born in Saint John, March 8th, 1914, he was the son of the late Melbourne Thomas and Hannah Maud (Fenwick) Gibbon. Melbourne worked with C.P. Railway before becoming self-employed. He was a keen naturalist with interests in fishing, hunting, swimming and walking. In recognition of fifty-five years with the Knights of Pythias, some as chancellor, he was awarded a life membership. He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Fox (David Nickerson); one son M. Thomas (Elaine); four grandchildren, Lorrie Fox (Ben Fanjoy), Krista Fox of Toronto, ON, Kellie (Jason Small) and Steven Gibbon of Ottawa, ON. “Papa” will be dearly missed by his great-grandchildren Seth and Charlotte Fanjoy and Kristen Small. Besides his parents, Melbourne was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (O'Dell) and his two sisters Zeversa Brayley and Verda Brown. Thank you to the caring family of the Gagetown Nursing Home for making the transition of Mel's life so peaceful. A private family funeral service will be held at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). With interment in Fernhill Cemetery to follow the service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. www.brenansfh.com
