Obituary of Captain Edward G. Wood
Just four days before his 93rd. birthday, the death of Retired Captain Edward G. Wood, husband of the late Mabel (Pinky) (Hayward) Wood of Loch Lomond Villa, Saint John, NB occurred at his residence Tuesday, June 23, 2003. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late John Edward and Mary (Bedford) Wood. Like his father before him, Captain Wood served his community faithfully in the Saint John Fire Department. He retired in 1975 as Captain with more than 34 years service, he was a member of the International Fire Association Local #771 and was a former member of St. Mary's and St. Bartholomew's Church. Besides his wife and parents, Captain Wood is also predeceased by his brother Fred Wood, sister Dorothy Dunham, son Edward Malcolm Wood and daughter Marion Louise Noble, and numerous others. He is survived by his daughter Bernice Johnston of Saint John, NB, his son Norman Wood of USA, a sister Hazel (Mrs. Harold Nixon), of Saint John, NB, as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his special grand daughter, Deborah Mahar. Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be Thursday, June 26, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. with interment at Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Fire Fighters' special charity; the Muscular Dystrophy Association or a charity of the donors' choice.
