Obituary of J. Dawson Morrison
The death of J. Dawson Morrison of the St. John & St. Stephen Nursing Home, Saint John, NB, husband of Gertrude (MacPherson) Morrison, occurred on Thursday, August 18, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Burnt Church, NB, he was a son of the late R. Melvin and Violet W. (Anderson) Morrison. Dawson served as a Sgt. in WWII and was a member of Branch # 53 Royal Canadian Legion; a Past Master of the Orange Lodge and a member of Main Street Baptist Church and McAllister Place Walking Club. He owned and operated a barbershop on Carmarthen Street for several years, before being employed by the New Brunswick Liquor Commission for 32 years. Beside his wife, Dawson is survived by two daughters, Judith (Wilmot) Owens of Saint John and Kathy (Brian) Meahan of Dartmouth, NS; one brother, James Morrison of Miramichi City, NB; two grandchildren, Jillian and Aaron Meahan; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy and Eleanor and two brothers, Laurence and Calvin. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 22, 2005 from Main Street Baptist Church at 2 pm with interment following in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the New Brunswick Heart & Stroke Foundation, Alzheimer's Society of Saint John, or a charity of the donor's choice.
