Obituary of Joyce Marion Ward

WARD (U.E.), Joyce Marion - Of the Carleton-Kirk Nursing Home, Saint John, and formerly of MacLaren Blvd., Spruce Lake and Michael Crescent, died peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at her residence after a period of failing health. Joyce Marion (JOHNSON) WARD was born October 7, 1917 in Newmarket, Ontario, daughter of the late Robert J. and Beatrice (CLOSSON) JOHNSON. She attended schools in Ontario and in early life was a milliner for Brown Hat in Toronto, and later a professional Nanny for a number of years. In 1948 she married C. G. 'Hap' WARD, and they moved to Hap's home province of New Brunswick, where she lived the remainder of her life. Proud of her Loyalist heritage, she was descended from several Loyalist lines from Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New York, who settled in Ontario after the American Revolutionary War. At least one of her lines of descent came from the Puritans who landed in North America in the 1620s. She was a member of the United Empire Loyalists, a life member of the New Brunswick Women's Institute, New Brunswick Genealogical Society and a life member of the Seeley Genealogical Society. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Cathryn (Steven SELLORS) of Grand Bay, and sons Bruce, and Robert (Daphne), both of Saint John, step-grandson Michael NEEDHAM (Sheri) of Yarmouth, N.S. and their son Jared, step-grandson James NEEDHAM (Cynthia) of Lower Sackville, N.S. and his children Jacob and Kayla, a sister Olive BOADWAY of Stouffville, Ontario and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, C.G. 'Hap' WARD (1993), sister Erma LITTLE (1973) of Kettleby, Ontario, and brother Bruce JOHNSON (2004) of San Bernardino, California. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424) with visiting on Sunday, September 11, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A graveside service and interment will be held at Fernhill Cemetery on Monday, September 12, 2005 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
