Obituary of Joseph Purdy Ellis
The death of Joseph 'Marven' Purdy Ellis, loving husband of Elaine Ellis, occurred on September 22, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late Harvey and Muriel (Purdy) Ellis. He attended Winter Street Public School and graduated from RCS, Class of 1949, before attending Dalhousie University. He was employed as a sales representative with APM retiring in 1991. He was a member of Kings Valley Wesleyan Church, Thistle St. Andrews and Riverside Curling Club, the Gomagan Gun Club and the Power Boat Club. He wintered in Florida and was a member of the Embassy Park Shuffle Board Club. Besides his wife he is survived by his son Harvey and his wife Cheryl of Saint John, his daughters Cyndy Ellis of great Village, NS, Sally Jones and her husband Craig of Quispamsis, Jo-Anne Thompson and her husband Sandy of Saint John, his step-son Dr. Christopher Pringle of Halifax, step-daughter Elizabeth Pringle of Clifton-Royal, his sisters Shirley Cosman and her husband Burt of Rothesay, Nancy Brittain of Rothesay, his grandchildren Nathan, Andrew, Rebecca, Abby, Sarah-Jane, Alexa, Kayleigh, and Sean and several cousins, nieces and nephews. His wife Helen predeceased him. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2005, at 1:00 pm from Brenans Chapel, followed by cremation. In lieu of flowers remembrances made to the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated.
