Obituary of Joseph Basile Cormier

The death of Joseph Basile Cormier, of Saint John, husband of Edmonde Cormier, occurred on Sunday, October 9, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Caraquet, NB he was the son of the late Emile and Eugenie Cormier. Mr. Cormier was a veteran of World War II serving overseas in Belgium, Holland, Germany and the invasion of France. For forty years he was a driver and co-owner of Vet's Taxi. Following his retirement from Vet's Joseph worked for several years with Irving Security. Joseph was a member of St. Pius X Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #64, RCS Signal Corp. Association, C.N.I.B., and was a longtime member of the Aquatic Centre. Although Joseph was legally blind, he would daily, for the past 15 years or so, walk uptown with his white cane for his daily swim and then back home again. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Rene (Lori) of Calgary, AB and Michael (Joan) of Fredericton, NB; three daughters, Linda Stafford (Brian) of Saint John, Janet Erb of Saint John and Eileen Cormier (Brian McAfee) of Tallahassee, FL; one brother, Alphonse of Saint John; nine grandchildren, David, Alan and Martin White, Justin Erb, Mark and Lisa Cormier and Joseph, Rachel and Annie Cormier; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by half-brother, Frank Hebert. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday 7-9 PM and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Church, Somerset Street, Saint John on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 11:00 AM. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Remembrances to the CNIB, Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a tribute to a Veteran service on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. www.brenansfh.com
