Obituary of JAMES ROSS MCGILVRAY
The death of James Ross McGilvray of Saint John, NB, husband of the late Elizabeth Maltby, occurred on Monday, October 24, 2005 at Ridgewood Veteran's Wing. Born in Amherst, NS, he was a son of the late Edward and Anne (McKeowan) McGilvray. Ross worked as a manager for Atlantic Wholesalers in Saint John and was manager of the Penny Saver Supermarket in St. Stephen, NB, before his retirement in 1986. He was a member of Thistle-St. Andrews Curling Club, a member of the United Commercial Travelers and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion: Lancaster Branch. He served overseas during WWII with the Cape Breton Highlanders and the First Special Service Force where he was recently presented with the prestigious Combat Infantry Medal. Survived by his daughter, Gloria Goodwin (Ray) of Edmonton, AB, one son: Gregory McGilvray of Alburqueque, New Mexico, one sister: Ava Knight of Moncton, NB, two granddaughters: Shelly Goodwin-Kincaid (Reuben) and Jody Goodwin, both of Edmonton, AB, one great-granddaughter: Olivia Kincaid, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Reece, Phillip and Earl Kitchner McGilvray, sisters: Sylva Aldrich and Glory Scott, one grandson: Todd Goodwin. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) with visitation on Thursday from 7-9 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion Service will be held at 7 pm. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 28, 2005 at 2 pm in Church of England Cemetery, Amherst, NS.
