Obituary of Helen Matilda Rodger
The death of Helen Matilda Rodger of Saint John, NB, wife of Dr. Kenneth Rodger, occurred on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at the home of her caregiver, Tanya Coles. Born in New Glasgow, NS, in 1925, she was the daughter of the late Hedley and Margaret (Oliver) Gunn. Helen had attended the School of Nursing at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow and was employed there for several years before going on to Nurse at the Saint John General Hospital. Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, Paul (Susan) of Rothesay and Douglas (Perla) of Victoria, BC; daughter, Linda Beckwith (Michael) of Saint John; brother, Roy Gunn (Barb) of Halifax, NS; sister, Dorothy Whitefield of Ottawa, ON; ten grandchildren, Jennifer McAdam, Kevin, Matthew, Patricia and Geoff Beckwith, Jill, Janis, Alison, Laura and Claudia Rodger; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a daughter, Ann McAdam, a sister Evelyn Lawrence and a brother, Howard Gunn. She was a wonderful loving mother and will be sadly missed by her family. She enjoyed summers with family and friends at the Isle of Pines and in later years at the family cottage in Amherst, NS. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday 7-9 PM and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Service will be held at Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 2:00 PM. Interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Alzheimer Society, the Parkinson Foundation or the charity of the donor's choice.
