Obituary of Helmer Biermann
The death of Helmer Biermann, husband of the late Catherine Anne 'Rosalie' Biermann, occurred on Sunday, November 27, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Skaerbaek, Denmark, he was the son of the late Heinrich and Maren Katrine (Davidsen) Biermann. He was employed with the Telegraph-Journal & Evening Times Globe from where he retired as Editor of Arts and Entertainment. He was an avid reader and writer, had a love of old movies (classics), opera and classical music, and enjoyed swimming and golf. He was a member of the 1st board of directors of the original Saint John Symphony, a honourary member of the Saint John Art Club, a member of the Danish Society having served as president, and a member of the Fortnightly Club. He was a World Traveler and a member of Hope Lutheran Church. He is survived by his sons Schani and his wife Veronica of Regina, Karl and his wife Catherine of Hammonds Plains, NS, his daughter Cathy and her husband Bernard Cullinan of Saint John, grandchildren Sheryl, Tim (Krista), David and Heather Cullinan and Olivia and Bridget Biermann, his great-granddaughter Charlotte and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his wife his sister Olga Colwell predeceased him. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2005, at 2:30 pm, from Brenan's Chapel. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Hope Lutheran Church or the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of the donor's choice.
