Obituary of Stanley Burns MacMillan
MacMillan, Stanley Burns ? The death of Stanley MacMillan, husband of Ella (Chapman), occurred at his Ellerdale Street residence in Saint John, NB on Monday, December 5th, 2005. Born in Halifax, NS on July 14th, 1931, he was the son of the late Freeman and Thelma (Bragdon) MacMillan. Devoted to his family and friends, Stan was an active supporter of local sports ? teaching swimming, coaching hockey and baseball, organizing, promoting, and cheering on local athletes and teams. During winter he was a frequent fixture in community rinks. When not at a ball diamond, he loved spending his summer hours along Belleisle Bay ? tending the garden, paddling his canoe, pitching a game of horseshoes, or singing and telling stories around a bonfire. Stan was employed with Irving Oil Ltd., retiring after 35 years. He was a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada. In addition to his wife, Stan is survived by two sons: Burns (Judith) and Bruce (Jane), and a daughter: Barbara (Danny) Ryan, all of Saint John; eight grandchildren: Megan, Jenny, Jill, Scott, Jamie, Andrew, Robbie, and Bruce; two great grandchildren: Abbigayle and Griffin. Visiting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB 634-7424 on Tuesday 7-9 pm and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral will be held Thursday, December 8th at 10 am, from Silver Falls United Church. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Stan MacMillan Hockey Scholarship, c/o Saint John High School Centennial Scholarship Fund, 170 ? 200 Prince William St., Saint John, NB E2L 2B7.
