Obituary of Ronald Frederick Derry
The death of Ronald Frederick Derry Sr., of 10 Veterans Court, Saint John, husband of Ernestine (Paulin) (McDermott) Derry, occurred on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in South Devon, NB, he was the son of the late John H. and Alice M. (Morgan) Derry. Mr. Derry was a veteran of World War II, serving in Canada, the United Kingdom and the Mediterranean Forces and was a member of #69 Branch, Royal Canadian Legion and Main Brac Naval Veteran's Association. Ron was a Pipefitter for many years and was a member of Local # 213, the Plumbers and Pipefitter's Union, as well as working with CPR Truckers, before his retirement. Mr. Derry was a member of St. Pius X Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a former longtime member of the Saint John Barber Shop Quartet. His volunteer work included the Saint John Boys and Girls Club and coaching South End Little League. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Ronald John Joseph Derry Jr. (Donna Lou) of Miramchi, NB, one daughter, Kimberly Reardon (Darcy) of Rowley, NB, four grandchildren Cristy, Ashley, Chelsea, Brianna, two step-sons, Kevin McDermott (Brenda) of Saint John and Joseph McDermott (Wendy Robinson) of Vancouver, BC, four step-daughters, Denise Maloney (Leo) of Saint John, Lorraine Brown (Raymond) of Saint John, Karen Ann MacDougall (Jack) of Halifax and Paula Bernard (Scott) of Victoria, BC, 10 step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Hazel “Sis” (Cook) Derry and one sister, Fern McLaughlin as well as seven brothers Maurice, John, Frank, Harold, Walter, Murray and Earl. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 7-9 pm and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Church, Somerset Street, Saint John on Friday, December 9, 2005 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to the charity of the donors' choice. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a tribute to a Veteran Service on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
