Obituary of MERLYN A. ”TEX” HUGHES
The death of Merlyn Anderson “Tex” Hughes of 107 Hillcrest Drive, Saint John West, husband of Regina “Jean” E. (Britt) Hughes, occurred on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at his residence. Born in Lorneville, NB, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen E. (Ferguson) Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the Canadian Air Force. He attended Carleton University studying Journalism, was well read and a great poet. He was employed with the Saint John Police Force for many years before his retirement and was a Regional Director with C.U.P.E. An avid sports enthusiast he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Maureen Jean Hughes of Saint John West, special niece, Karen Johnston of Saint John, two sisters, Verna Janzen (Dr. Norman) and Charlotte Hughes both of Vancouver, BC and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, James and Burton and one sister, Winnifred Carter. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Milford Road, on Friday, February 3, 2006 at 10 am. Interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or the charity of the donors' choice would be appreciated. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a tribute to a Veteran service on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
