Obituary of Helen W. Ellis
Helen W. (James) Ellis passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, April 24, 2006 following a brief illness. Helen was born in Saint John on November 28, 1916 to Charles Winthrop and Laurena (Mawhinney) James. She graduated from Saint John High School in 1933, Saint John Vocational School in 1934 and Provincial Normal School in 1935. She taught in area schools including Loch Lomond, Beaconsfield, New Albert and Seawood, retiring in 1976. She was organist and choir director at St. John's (Stone) Church from 1944 to 1975. She was predeceased by her husband Harold L. Ellis in 1984 and by her sister Phyllis James in 2000. She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca of Saint John, one son, David (Lyne) of New Maryland, one brother Robert James (Carmen) of Sussex, niece Carolyn James (Brian) and nephew Bruce James (Lani) of Winnipeg. Arrangements are entrusted to Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Visitation will take place at St. John's (Stone) Church, 87 Carleton Street, Saint John, on Wednesday, April 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will take place at St. John's (Stone) Church on Thursday, April 27 at 11:00 AM followed by a reception in the church hall. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Stone Church Restoration Fund, the Gabriel Kuling Memorial Fund (Special Needs Students, School District 6), or to the charity of the donors' choice. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery on Friday, April 28, 2006 at 10:00 AM.
