Obituary of Ronald Cecil Gray
With great sadness the death of Ron happened at the Saint John Regional Hospital on May 21, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. With family beside him Ron "went to be with his God." Ron was the son of the late Roy C. and Mary (MacKenzie) Gray and loving husband of his wife Muriel (Weatherhead) Gray for 63 years. He leaves to mourn his beloved daughter Glenna Gray (Watson) and her husband Christopher Watson of Ottawa, ON, daughter-in-law Gloria (Gray) Robertson, grandchildren; R. Corey Gray of Trenton, ON, Kimberly (Gray) Cooper and her husband Rick of Kingston, ON, and Lindsey Martha Watson of Ottawa, ON; great grandchildren Andrew and Hannah Cooper of Kingston, ON, sister Audrey (Gray) Coleman of Petitcodiac, brother C. Gordon Gray of Saint John, sister-in-law Glenna (Weatherhead) Lovegrove of Hamilton, ON, nieces Judy Vautour of Miramichi, Deborah Sewell of Mississauga, ON, nephew Charles Gray of Saint John, and several cousins. His son Ronald C. Gray Jr. and sister Jean (Gray) Matheson predeceased him. Ron loved all sports, but especially baseball having played on several softball teams in his youth. He worked for the Telegraph-Journal before serving with the Army Service Corps, as Staff-Sergeant, during WW II. He was employed with Swift Canada Co. for 30 years, during which time he was transferred to St. Stephen where he was actively involved in golf, bowling and softball. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, St. Stephen, NB. He and his family attended Milltown United Church. He finished the last 8 years of his working career with Ganong Ltd. and upon his retirement he and his family returned to Saint John. They attended the Church of St. Andrews & St. David. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), and at Ron's request there will not be any visiting or funeral service. Following cremation family and close friends will gather at Fernhill Cemetery on Friday, May 26, 2006, at 1:00 pm, for graveside prayers. Remembrances made to the Church of St. Andrew & St. David, the Canadian Bible Society or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
