Obituary of Robert Gary Beatteay
The death of Robert “Bob” Gary Beatteay, of 8 Belgian Road, Saint John, husband of Rosalind “Rose” (Hamilton) Beatteay, occurred on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on January 14, 1940, he was the son of the late George and Hazel (MacDonald) Beatteay. Bob was in the Militia from 1954-1960 and then joined the Canadian Army where he served as an RCR with the 1st, and 2nd Battalion from 1962-1976 on peace keeping duty in the United Nations, Nato, Germany and Cypress. He then joined the London Police Department where he worked until 1988 before becoming a Commissionaire until his retirement. He was a member of the Ontario Police Association, the Federal Superannuates National Association and the Blue Helmets. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Sergeant R. P. Beatteay (Dawn) of Ottawa, ON and Randal at home, one daughter, Rhonda Beatteay of Peterborough, ON, three brothers, Jack of Toronto, ON, Gerald of St. Thomas and Peter of Iowa, USA, three sisters, Diane Craft of Barrie, ON, Catherine “Dolly” Webb of British Columbia and Dot Taner of Texas, two grandchildren, Samantha and Brandee, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Richard, five brothers, Allen, William, James, George and Joseph and four sisters, Eva, Jeannette, Peg and Ann. By request there will be no visiting. Memorial service will be held at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Friday, August 4, 2006 at 2:15 PM. Interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
