Obituary of Mary Gertrude Smith

The death of Mary Gertrude Smith of Saint John, NB, wife of the late William Smith, occurred on Sunday, September 10, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John a daughter of the late Archie and Hazel (Nelson) Speight. Mary was retired and had been employed over the years at City Laundry, New System Laundry and Holtzman Furniture. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church. Survived by her children: Charles “Buddy” (Kathleen) Smith of Baxter’s Corner, NB, Brian Smith and Rosemary (Phillip) Dean, both of Saint John; two sisters: Dorothy Phillips of Hardings Point, NB, Jean McMahon of Quispamsis, NB; one brother, Joseph Speight of Red Head, NB; three grandchildren: Brandy Lee Anne, Roderick Wood and Sue Ann Rose Smith; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, William; a brother, Melbourne; a grandson, Christopher Mark Smith. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm and Wednesday 2:00 pm until funeral time. Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 3:30 pm. Interment will be in Hardings Point Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or a charity of the donor’s choice.
