Obituary of Edward G. M. Pledge

Pledge, Edward “Ted” G. M. – The death of Edward “Ted” George Martin Pledge of Saint John, husband of Gertrude (Sweeney) Pledge, occurred on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in England he was a son of the late Edward and Anne (Howard) Pledge. Ted had served in World War II with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was employed with the C.P.R until his retirement. He came to Canada in 1919, was a member of St. Pius X Parish and former member of Carleton Cornet Band and the Royal Canadian Legion Band. Besides his wife Gertrude he is survived by son, Douglas (Sharon) Pledge of Saint John; two daughters: Nancy (Albert) Brun of Saint John; Rita Pledge of Saint John; two brothers: Sydney Pledge of Walton Lake, NB; Harold Pledge of Fredericton; seven grandchildren: Michael (Catherine) Brun, Carrie (Wayne) Macfarlane, Stephanie Brun, Jennifer (Don) Shannon, Stephen Pledge, Chris Pledge and Ian Pledge, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by one brother, William, three sisters: Emily Hanson, Cathleen “Kit” Cunningham and Gertrude Adair. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday, October 15, 2006 from 7-9 pm and Monday, October 16, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 from St. Pius X Church at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. A tribute to a veteran’s service will be held on Monday 7 pm.
