Obituary of Florence Garda SHIRLEY
The death of Florence Garda Shirley of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Edmund “Ted” William Shirley, occurred on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at the Loch Lomond Villa. Born in Albert, NB on June 7, 1902, a daughter of the late Joseph Elliott and Burdella Mary (Walker) Alexander. Garda had been a member of the Horticultural Society and a member of Park Avenue United Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survived by a sister-in-law, Ethel Alexander; eight nephews and nieces: Grenfell (Max) Alexander of USA, Courtney (Sandra) Alexander of ON, Diane (Ray) Tonge of Quispamsis, NB, Ann (Ken) Golding of Hampton, NB, Pat (Larry) McPhee of Quispamsis, Linda (Jean) LaRoche of QC and Mary (Greg) MacKenzie of BC. Predeceased by her husband Ted in 1990; brothers, Vaughn and Harvey Alexander; and a sister, Louise Alexander. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 11 am. Interment will be in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick.
