Obituary of Miriam Louise Johnston
The death of Miriam Louise Johnston, of Grand Bay-Westfield, wife of David L. Johnston, occurred on Monday, November 13, 2006 at her residence. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Azel Fiske and Elma Louise (Benedict) Blake. Miriam served with the Canadian Red Cross Corps. during World War II as a Welfare Officer and was a member of the Westfield Golf Club, the IODE and the Union Club. Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Anna Healy (Bob) of Halifax, NS and Elma McKay (Tom) of Grand Bay-Westfield; one son, Frank Johnston (Leslie) of Saint John; sisters-in-law, Ann Blake Torrey of Philadelphia, USA and Dorothy Stewart of London, ON; eight grandchildren: Robert D. Healy (Becky), Matthew Healy (Christina Mark) and Jacqueline Casey (Sean), Emily, John and Sam McKay, Laura and Blake Johnston; great granddaughter, Paige Elizabeth Casey and niece, Peggy Greider of Naples, FL. She was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Arthur and sister Nancy. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday 6-8 PM and Wednesday 2-4 PM only. Funeral service will be held at St. John’s (Stone) Church, 87 Carleton Street, Saint John on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 10:00 AM. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donors’ choice would be appreciated.
