Obituary of Andrew Gordon Chase
The death of Andrew Gordon Chase of 23 Caitlin Court, occurred suddenly on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at Saint John Regional Hospital. Born October 25, 1917 in Saint John, son of the late Arthur Gordon and Elsie (Harned) Chase of Saint John. Predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth G. (Betty) Young in 2002 and his sister Millie Eileen in 1996. Gordon was a veteran of WW II serving overseas as Captain with the 4th Canadian Army Division and the Argyle & Sutherland Highlanders, during the liberation of Holland. He was a member of the U.C.T. #755 Jack Kidd Council, the N.W.T. Commercial Travellers Association, the New Brunswick Rangers and was a member of the Byng Boys, where he was the past Commanding Officer. Gordon was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #22 for over 40 years and was a member of the Albion Lodge #1, F & AM and the Scottish Rite. Mr. Chase was an avid golfer and was a member of Riverside Golf and Country Club, Westfield Golf and Country Club, and was a life member of the Maritime Seniors Golf Association. Gordon is survived by sons Derek G. (Elizabeth) of Saint John, A. Gary (Christine) of Saint John, grandchildren Kevin (Sarah) of Ottawa, Ont. Craig of Saint John, Amanda of Fredericton, and great grandchild Riley Elizabeth Chase of Ottawa. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, October 17, 2003 at 1:00 PM. Interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute to a Veteran's service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donors' choice.
