Obituary of Emeline ‘Em’ Marie Hayward
Hayward … Emeline ‘Em’ Marie (LeBlanc) passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on December 11, 2006 following a brief illness. Born in Saint John on April 13th 1920, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Alvina (Robichaud) LeBlanc. Em was born and raised in Saint John with her eight siblings and met Charlie at the age of fifteen while working for his mother. They were married a year later and raised their seven children during their fifty-five years of marriage. Em and Charlie were a devoted couple that stayed together through thick and thin. Em was a great cook; always baking breads, pies, cookies, donuts and every other homemade food imaginable. No one, including the numerous people she helped out, left her table hungry. She loved her bingo, watching Tiger Woods play golf, lobster rolls and her husband Charlie. She was proud of and loved all her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed getting together with family, friends; especially her niece, Carol and her husband Doug. In times of crisis, she would put on a pot of tea and give you her undivided attention until all was well again. Em had a kind heart, a good sense of humor and genuinely cared for people. During her many years of marriage she lived in the Saint John area. For the last eight years Em lived on Mercer Settlement Road in Norton with her daughter Rose and son-in-law Jack. Em was predeceased by her loving husband Charles (March 1992), son George; brothers Clarence, sisters; Mary Alward and Celina Landry. She is survived by three brothers; Gerald of Kingston, Francis of Toronto, George of Saint John; two sisters; Amelia Perry of Saint John, Eileen Brooks (Larry) of Rothesay; her children; Rose (Jack) Rumson of Norton, Lloyd (Josie) of Saint John, Donald (Arlene) of Saint John, Marilyn of Middleton, NS, Kenneth (Theresa) of Saint John, Donna Mercer (Doug) of Hampton,; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 7-9 pm and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2006, at 10:30 am, from Brenans Chapel. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
