Obituary of Ronald More Seely
Seely, Ronald More, of Saint John, NB, husband of the late Olive Eliza (Brundage) Seely, passed away peacefully in his 98th year the morning of Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, September 21, 1909, he was the son of the late Walter Leslie and Emma Gertrude (Emery) Seely . Mr. Seely was a member of the first graduating class, SJVS,1928. Established by his father in 1903, he was the proprietor of Seely’s Grocery, Bentley St.1933-1973 for Douglas Ave. and surrounding area. With his brother-in-law Ronald Brundage, he established Brundage-Seely commercially grown blueberries in 1950, fields being in the Loch Lomond, St. Martin’s, and Willow Grove areas. He was a member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church, its choir, and was a tenor soloist. He was a reservist with 8th Princess Louise Hussars. Recognized as an accomplished marksman, he was the recipient of the Strathcona Cup (1927), medals and awards. Was provincial Grand Aggregate champion numerous times and represented NB at nationals (Connaught Ranges, Ottawa) vying for Bisley on nine occasions. An excellent bookkeeper, he was the treasurer of the book “The Seelys of New Brunswick”. Involved in athletics, sports, and a bit of drama in earlier years. Enjoyed duck hunting, bee keeping, gardening. Enjoyed many a game of bridge and cribbage with friends and relatives, especially his nephew Paul Fanjoy in latter years. A member of the Masonic order for 73 years, F.@ A.M. He is survived by his son Robert B. (Carol) Seely of Saint John and their daughter Helen E. and his daughter Pauline G. (Alex) Olyarchuk, Simpsonville, SC. and their children Peter (Lizanne) Olyarchuk, John Olyarchuk, and Janice (Gilles) Olyarchuk-Meyer. His first cousin Stuart Emery, his nephews, Emery, Paul, Harold Fanjoy, and Glen Seely. He is predeceased by his siblings Harold E. Seely, Percival B. Seely, Clifford K. Seely, Muriel (Newton) Fanjoy, Eileen Seely, and grandson David Olyarchuk. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Thursday 7pm-9pm, Friday 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. The Masonic service will be held Friday evening, 7pm. Brenan’s Chapel. Funeral will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday with service at 1pm. Interment will take place in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Oak Point, NB. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
