Obituary of Lester Charles Stirling Stackhouse
The death of Lester “Les” Stackhouse of Saint John, NB, husband of Ruth E. (Hetherington) Stackhouse, occurred on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing. Born in Hopewell Hill, NB, the son of the late Rev. Stirling B. and Mary Alicia (Payne) Stackhouse. Les had been employed with Irving Oil as Truck Fleet Manager for 36 years. During World War II he had served with the 118th Squadron RCAF from 1939 – 1945. Les and Ruth had been married for 65 years. He was a family man, enjoyed fishing and the camp at Musquash. He was a member of the Portland Masonic Lodge and was Past Master. Survived by his wife; two sons, Laurie L. and Gary S. (Nadine), both of Saint John; two grandsons, Glen and Greg (JoAnne); four great-grandchildren: Brittany, Connor, Jonathan and Julianne; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister, Greta Molyneaux – he was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Masonic Tribute Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday evening at 7 pm and a Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held on Friday evening at 7 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 11 am. Interment will be in St. Andrew’s Rural Cemetery, St. Andrews, NB. Remembrances may be made to the Ridgewood Comfort Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
