Obituary of J. Gilbert Paulin
J. Gilbert “Frenchy” Paulin, a World War II Merchant Navy Veteran, died on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the age of 81. Born in Bathurst, NB, he was the son of the late Francis and Julienne (Mallet) Paulin. He was predeceased by his wife Alma (Basque), a son Gerard and by several of his thirty-one brothers and sisters. As a lifelong Seaman, he sailed on numerous ships including serving on the Canadian Coast Guard and before retirement, Kent Lines Limited. He was a member of the Jervis Bay Memorial Branch #53 and the Portland Branch #64, Royal Canadian Legion and was a member of the team that always attended services for deceased Veteran’s.' He is survived by two sons, Rev. J. Stanislas of Beaverbrook, NB and Robert of Fort McMurray, AB; two daughters, Jeannine (James) Legere of Saint John and Jeannette (William) McHarg of Sussex, NB; eight brothers, Albert (Bunnie) of Essex, ME, Onesime (Geraldine) of London, ON, Gerard (Pierrette) of Quebec City, QC, Edmond (Anne), Laurier (Francine) and Romeo (Huguette) of Caraquet, NB, Wilfred (Ginette) of Sept-Iles, QC, and Michel (Sylvie) of Lameque, NB; five sisters, Jeannette (Elzear) Belanger of Lameque, NB, Rosemonde (Jean-Maurice) Theriault and Jeanne-d’Arc (Daniel) Blanchard of Bertrand, NB, Jeannine Paulin of Tracadie-Sheila, NB and Pierrette (Angelo) Fregonesi of Mississauga, ON; six grandchildren, Danielle, Jason, Adam, Matthew, Michelle (Danny) Wilband and Jessica, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and best friends, William “Micky” and Mary Pothier. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday 2-4 and 6-9 PM and Tuesday 10-11:45 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Church, Rockland Road, Saint John on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at 12:00 Noon. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances to the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or Holy Trinity Church Building Fund would be appreciated. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a tribute to a Veteran service on Monday evening at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
