Obituary of Leifa Frances “Nana” Thorne
Thorne (Squires), Leifa Frances “Nana”- The death of Leifa “ Nana” Thorne, of Quispamsis, wife of Brian Thorne occurred on Tuesday, January 15th, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in St. Phillips, NL, on July 27th, 1951 she was the daughter of the late Eli and Frances (Poole) Squires. Leifa worked for Irving Oil Ltd. from 1988 to present. She was a member of St. Marks Church and the C.W.L. Most of all she loved to spend her time doing crafts with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband Brian, her children, and most of all her grandchildren who will always remember her as “ Nana”, and a large circle of friends and family. Besides her husband she is survived by her son, Brian Jr. (Christina) of Quispamsis; daughter Lori Ann (Glen) Flowers of Quispamsis; grandchildren Meghan, Craig, and Nicholas Thorne, brothers Melvin, Eli, Max, Richard, and Tony Squires, sisters Desma Dowden, Rose Mary Drover, Sandra Sharpe, Rosalind Davis, Lydia Lannom, and Patsy Lawlor, and several in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother Wendell Squires. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9pm and Thursday 7-9pm. A vigil service will be held on Thursday at 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Marks Church on Friday January 18th, 2008 at 10am. Interment will be at Fernhill Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society and London Regional Cancer Centre in London, Ontario.
