Obituary of C. Bayard McIntyre

The death of Charles Bayard McIntyre occurred on 21st, January, 2009, at St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home at the age of 93. He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, he grew up in Hampton, New Brunswick. He graduated from the Hampton Consolidated High School, Acadia University and was employed by the Meteorological Branch of the Department of Transport. He studied Meteorology in Toronto and was seconded to the RCAF, and served on a number of their bases in the Atlantic Provinces and Quebec. For twenty years, most of his service was at the RCAF Station Greenwood (Canadian Forces Base) briefing pilots patrolling the sea lanes south of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. He was also responsible for briefing the Search and Rescue Squadron serving the Atlantic Region. Seeking a career change in 1957 he joined the Civil Service Commission as District Director of the Saint John Office later transferring to the Post Office as Manager of Personnel of NB and PEI from which he retired in 1974. He was better known for his hobbies, and while at RCAF Station at Greenwood Station, NS he edited “Wings Over Greenwood” for five years. While in Saint John he went back to his earlier profession and was a “Weather Man” on CHSJ TV for 15 years. At Acadia besides earning a BSc (Physics and Math) he was rewarded a Literary “A” for his participation on the student newspaper. He was also a lab assistant in the Physics Department for three years. In connection with his work with The Civil Service Commission, he was active in the Public Personnel Association for NB and during his term as President the Association hosted the Eastern Conference of PPA which comprised of the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec, Ontario and some American States. Bayard was devoted to his family. Camping, trailering and boating were among his activities. He maintained a boat on the Saint John River System for twenty six years. Cruising and racing at the RKYC was a family tradition. He was a staunch supporter of the Empty Stocking Fund and read pledges on TV for over forty years. He was a member and a PM of Markland Lodge #99 in Kingston, NS and affiliated member and PM of Carleton Lodge #8 in Saint John. He was also a member of the Victoria Lodge of Perfection, Keith Sovereign Chapter Rose Croix and the Nova Scotia Consistory and received Honorary Status in all the above lodges. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Church and served as an elder and treasurer. He was selected for a National Committee on Ministry representing the Atlantic Provinces for a period of three years. He was a stamp collector of Canadian Stamps. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marguerite (White); one son, David (Peggy); and one daughter, Julia (David) Teed, his grandchildren Karen (Jason) Doyle; Jaime (Derek) Young, Katie McIntyre, Stephanie and Andrew Teed and his great grandchildren Tyler Doyle, Hailey and Alexis Young. He has one sister Audrey Mckay of Victoria BC. He was predeceased by a son Peter. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, 634-7424, with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held at Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 10:00 AM. A Masonic Tribute Service will be held on Friday at 7 PM during visiting. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB.
