Obituary of Joan Ullock
After a brief illness and surrounded by those who loved her, Joan (Gallant) (Welch) Ullock of Topeka St., Saint John, NB, friend and companion of George Raid, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, January 24, 2004. Born in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late Bertha (Bub) Gallant. During her lifetime, Joan worked in many factories and businesses in Saint John including Pope's Machine Shop and Willet Fruit before retiring from T.S. Simms in 1992. An avid Bingo fan, Joan also spent many fun-filled Saturday evenings on the dance floor at the Seniors' Centre at the Saint John City Market. Her other special pleasures came from her affection for animals. Besides her friend, companion and dance partner; George, Joan will also be missed by her daughters; Wendy (Mrs. Wayne Muise) Welch and Cheryl (Mrs. Byard Bourgeois) Horsler, both of Saint John, NB as well as three grandchildren; Sherry Boone, Thomas Horsler and her “Moon Worm”, Nicole Welch. In addition to her family, Joan leaves behind to mourn, two good family friends; Phyllis Green, her special cousin, and Mary Ingleton. Joan was predeceased by her mother Bertha (Nanny Bub) Gallant, as well as her furry but faithful friend Sam. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424) with visiting on Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral from Brenan's Chapel on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. As a reflection of Joan's love for her gentle friends, remembrances may be made to the Saint John Animal Rescue League.
