Obituary of John Jack Barraclough Stevenson
Stevenson, John “Jack” Barraclough – (February 23, 1920 – February 1, 2009) John “Jack” Stevenson of Saint John, NB, husband of the late Eileen (Lewis) Stevenson passed away at his residence. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Jonathan Dunwell and Mary Alice (Barraclough) Stevenson. He was a long time member of Trinity Anglican Church serving as Scout Master, member of the Choir, member of the Vestry and on several committees. Jack belonged to the Knights of Pythias. He was a Painting Contractor and for many years owned and operated H.L. MacGowan and Company. During WWII he served as a Sergeant with the Saint John Fusilliers. Jack was a consummate baseball fan. He possessed an extensive knowledge of Saint John’s development and with great accuracy could recall acquaintances, homes and businesses in the area. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Eileen and his sister, Emily Staddon. He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn (Jack) Evans, Quispamsis; son, John W. (Katherine) Stevenson, Greenwood, NS; daughter, Patricia (Tim) Withers, Quispamsis; one sister, Hilda Disher, Saint John; seven grandchildren, Krista Bishop (Darren), Quispamsis, Greg Evans (Robin), Rothesay, Jacquelyn Stevenson, Halifax, John T. Stevenson (Julie), Petawawa, Katherine Trask (James), Quispamsis, Melenie Relkow (Dan), Calgary and John Withers (Heather), Quispamsis; eleven great-grandchildren, Sean Stevenson, Jillian and Andrew Bishop, Laura and Sarah Evans, Lauren and Carter Stevenson, Steven and Alyson Trask, Hayden and Elise Withers; several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Monday from 7-9 pm and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 11 am. Interment will be held in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the East Saint John Food Bank, the Canadian Diabetic Association or any charity of choice.
