Obituary
Obituary of R. Marie Allan
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Allan on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Marie fought a courageous battle against breast cancer with grace and dignity. She was born in Victoria, Newfoundland and made her way to Saint John, New Brunswick, where she married Ray Allan. Marie and Ray had 54 wonderful years together and raised two daughters. She had a wide circle of friends who will miss her generosity and spirit besides her contribution to their book clubs, exercise classes, and bowling games. Marie was always generous with her time and spent many hours on volunteer activities including Meals on Wheels and the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Marie was deeply devoted to her family and always put others before herself. She was a loving mother who was always supportive and encouraging of her children’s paths in life. She was devoted to her grandchildren and they will deeply miss “Nanny” whom they loved so much. Her smile, her laugh, and her zest for life will be missed by everyone who knew her. Marie is survived by her husband, Ray; her two daughters, Lynn Vickers (Robert) and Ann Janes (Brent); her five grandchildren, Beth and Alex Vickers and Zachary, Brianna and Samantha Janes; several brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 12:00 Noon from Brenan’s Chapel. Following a reception, interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, or to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
