Obituary of T. Arnold Bacon
The death of T. Arnold Bacon of Saint John, NB, husband of Valerie M. (Burningham) Bacon, occurred on Friday, August 14, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, he was a son of the late Warren and Lillian (Brown) Bacon. Arnold had served in WWII with the Canadian Army as a signal man. After the war he worked with Veteran’s Affairs and Canada Customs, retiring in 1990 as the Regional Director of Canada Customs, completing 49 years of service to the Government of Canada. He was a member of Portland United Church, Wharf Rats, Metro Skating, well known sportsman – hockey, soccer and badminton. Besides his wife Arnold is survived by son, John (Mary Orr) Bacon of Manitoba; one brother, Doug (Betty) Bacon of Saint John; two grandchildren, Kristin and Sean; sister-in-law, Elaine Hannan-Bacon of Quispamsis; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by three brothers, Everett, Ralph and Alfred Bacon. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday, August 16, 2009 from 2-4 pm. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 17, 2009 from Portland United Church at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to Portland United Church.
